After disabling that feature, all is well with my apps' positioning. Is there a work around to get the previous behavior? I just want a button on my home screen to go to a specific URL like I've had for years. The latest chrome update did me the "favor" of deleting all of my existing home screen shortcuts and now the install pwa option is not doing what I want. Uncheck "Desktop Site" and it should have added a little app square to your home that'll take you directly to that site instead of the main home. This site contains user submitted content, comments and opinions and is for informational purposes only.

In the same procedure above, find your browser on Play Store. Now tap Install to reinstall your browser. ● Make some sites load slowerBut, if it solves the problem at hand, it’s worth it(it doesn’t do any harm).

But I noticed that for installable PWA apps in Chrome, there is a "+" icon on the right side of the address bar, next to the Favorites "star" icon. You can either tap Add again and the system will automatically add the shortcut to your home screen(Usually it’s added to a window where there are no apps). On further exploration, I have found that the "Install" option is a one time tool that adds the "Add to Home screen" option in the menu. The next time that you open the menu to save a link to your phone's home screen, the "Add to Home screen" option will show up in your three dot menu.

You can choose the default name already set or give one of your own. After the site loads, look at the top right corner of your screen. You should see a ‘three vertical dots button.

We have a few solutions to recommend so make sure to check them out below. I will attach a screenshot later. But I have 3 folders which contain apps and shortcuts ECS and Weather. All this would be lost if I change launchers.

Hopefully, a fresh start will fix the issue at hand. If the Add to Home Screen is not showing, restart your device, update Chrome , check browser permissions, and try clearing cache. We already wrote on how to create website shortcuts from Chrome and add them to the Home Screen. However, it seems that this simple action is not available for all users. Some of them report that the Add to Home Screen is not working as they can’t create Home Screen shortcuts in Google Chrome, Firefox, or other browsers on Android.
Where has Add to Home screen gone?
If there is any new update available, the green button will have Update written on it. If it’s up to date, then it will have Open written instead. That’s how you can add a shortcut to your Android phone’s home screen. And if the add to home screen is missing for Chrome on your phone, we’ll show you what measures you can take to fix that. It may be to fetch the latest news.

And I've checked all of my screens. Do you see it when you click on ‘edit actions’? If so you will have to add it to the list again as an available option.
Family link allows google chrome to go over time limit
I use the “add to home screen” option for site links on a regular basis. I finally figured out an issue with the add to home screen option. The issue was that some sites save as the home screen and not the actual link that is viewed. No matter what I tried, it’s still saved to the home screen of the site every time and not the current article that was being viewed. If you still can’t add shortcuts to Home Screen from a browser, you can try resetting the browser by clearing data and checking permissions. Some users suggest that granting the default launcher storage access fixes the problem.

Tap on it to launch the options bar. And if you fall in the camp of those who have a specific landing page or two they like to view, you can quickly and easily access it. The best part is that you can do this on either Android or iOS. So you aren’t missing out if you’re on one platform or the other. On this page, “Add to Home Screen” is an option. It’s sometimes there and sometimes isn’t, with no pattern or consistency.
Clearing cache is the first step but, if that fails, you can clear all local data and check for improvements. Just downloaded the Nova launcher and "Add to Home Screen" function on Chrome browser doesn't work for me either. It says it's created shortcut on the desktop but nothing appears.
Regarding the Chrome issue, mine works as explained above. However when the 2nd screen pops up to add the shortcut, instead of choosing Add, long press on the icon and it will allow you to drop it onto the homepage. PWA or Progressive Web Apps are apps that can be installed. Not from play store but it's an app. It opens in Chrome probably because you are clicking on a link in gmail using the gmail app.
Visit the website you want to add to your home screen. Tap the three dots in the upper right corner. If you can’t find the Add to Home screen option, it could be due to several reasons. It’s hard to say why sometimes the Add to Home screen doesn’t work on particular models or Android versions.

Your name/email address will never be shared. Thank you for reading and make sure to tell us if the provided solutions helped you or not. Have a better idea of how to solve this problem? Tell us in the comments section below. Open the browser from the list of available apps. I rely on that feature and it's just awful not being able to add to my home screen.
